REFLECTION & PRACTICE

When yes leaves you resentful.

Reflect on a small boundary and practice expressing it with clarity and care.

← All resources

Choose a low-stakes situation in a relationship where expressing a preference is safe.

Make the boundary concrete

  1. What did you agree to that you did not have the time, energy, or desire to do?
  2. What did you predict would happen if you said no?
  3. What could you reasonably offer, if anything?
  4. Practice a short sentence: “I cannot do that today. I can help on Friday.” Or, “I need time to think before I answer.”
  5. Notice how it feels to state your limit without a long defense.

If expressing a boundary could expose you to threats or retaliation, seek appropriate support before trying this exercise.
